Thomas leaves Sodor to fulfil his dream of seeing the world. This heroic quest takes Thomas across deserts, through jungles and over dangerous mountains as he travels across five continents seeing sights he has never seen before.
With the help of his new friend Gator, Percy learns all about being brave as Thomas spots some suspicious giant footprints at the Sodor Clay Pits. Thomas and Mavis work together to get the steam engines and the diesel engine to help build the new airport in time. Thomas finds himself stranded on a strange island which is inhabited by even stranger locomotives.
Will he ever find a way back to Sodor? Conductor's supply of magic gold dust, which allows him to travel between Shining Time and Thomas's island, is critically low. Unfortunately, he doesn't know how to get more. Meanwhile, Thomas is fending off attacks by the nasty diesel engines. Getting more gold dust will require help from Mr.
C's slacker cousin, his new friend Lilly, and her morose grandfather, plus the secret engine he's hidden all these years and couldn't get running. It is stunning that in this day and age of movie tie-ins, that the creators or better said owners of the Thomas the Tank Engine franchise couldn't find a better major movie outlet for their goldmine. Face it, if they would have put 2 seconds of thought into this clunker it would have been huge.
Trouble in the Tunnel (Thomas & Friends) - Libraries on the Go
Basing it on the Shining Time Station theme was the first mistake. Why not have a nice little movie about the Island of Sodor and its engines? Again, a simple little movie would have made a mint. It has been years since this movie came out and I wonder why another attempt at a Thomas movie hasn't been made. This is the most popular character for children ages Parents like myself would kill for a decent big screen adaptation to take children to.
Seems like somebody is missing the boat here. As for this movie, it has all been said within the previous comments. The acting by Peter Fonda is downright embarrassing, and the storyline is confusing. More focus should have been put on the engines and less on wooden human characters. It gets a 3 from me because despite all its flaws, my 3 year old loves it, therefore giving daddy a much needed rest from time to time. Time for another try at a Thomas movie. Anybody up for it? Except By The Oscars. Childhood Movies. For one, these trains perform tasks dictated by their imperious, little white boss, Sir Topham Hatt also known as The Fat Controller , whose attire of a top hat, tuxedo and big round belly is just a little too obvious. Basically, he's the Monopoly dictator of their funky little island.
Hatt orders the trains to do everything from hauling freight to carrying passengers to running whatever random errand he wants done, whenever he wants it done — regardless of their pre-existing schedules. Inevitably, the trains get in a fight with or pick on one another or generally mess up whatever job they are supposed to be doing until Hatt has to scold one of them about being a "really useful engine", because their sole utility in life is their ability to satisfy his whims. Yeah, because I want to teach my kid to admire a controlling autocrat.
But there was one particular episode that caused me to put the brakes on Thomas for good.

It revolved around James, a red engine who is described in the opening credits as "vain but lots of fun. Great — that's going in my Parenting book. But while James has only had an undercoat of pink slathered on, Topham Hatt interrupts and demands that James go pick up Hatt's granddaughter and deliver her and her friends to a birthday party right now.
